HY-161 is a high molecular weight block copolymer solution containing pigment affinity groups, which is a cationic wetting and dispersing agent.
Wetting dispersant HY-161
Overview:
HY-161 is a high molecular weight block copolymer
solution containing pigment affinity groups, which is a cationic wetting and
dispersing agent, which is used as a wetting and dispersing agent for
solvent-based automotive coatings, industrial coatings and pigment concentrate
slurries. It is particularly suitable for stabilizing very fine carbon blacks
and organic pigments, especially two-component polyurethanes and baking systems.
Significantly reduces the viscosity of the abrasive.
Typical materialized data:
Amine values |
11 mg KOH/g |
Density (20 °C) |
1.02g /ml |
No volatile matter (20 minutes, 150 °C) |
30% |
Solvent |
Propylene glycol methyl ether acetate/butyl acetate 6/1 |
Flash point |
38 °C |
Features and benefits:
This high molecular weight additive deflocculates and
stabilizes the pigment by steric hindrance. The same charge is applied to the
pigment particles, and the resulting repulsive force and steric stabilization
effectively avoid possible co-flocculation, so that the multi-pigment system
does not produce floating and blooming. The deflocculation properties of the
additive increase the gloss, color intensity, clarity and hiding power of the
coating while reducing the viscosity of the abrasive.
Fields of application:
Automotive coatings Industrial coatings Architectural
coatings Anticorrosive coating system
Recommended Dosage:
The amount of additives used (purchased
form) is based on the pigment:
Inorganic pigments |
10-15% |
Titanium dioxide |
5-6% |
Organic paints |
30-90% |
Carbon black |
70-140% |
The above data is empirical dosage, and the actual dosage
needs to be determined through a series of tests.
Usage:
The additives should be added to
the abrasive first, and then the pigments should be added. The resin and
solvent components of the abrasive are pre-mixed and then the additives are
slowly added with constant stirring. Pigments should not be added until the
additives are mixed evenly.
Special attention:
Stratification or turbidity may occur at temperatures below 0 °C, heat to 20 °C and mix well. The surface treatment of certain organic pigments can adversely affect the potency of this wetting and dispersing agent. In this case, the same type of untreated pigment can be tried. When used in coil coatings, the interaction between the cationic additive and the acid catalyst must be considered.
